Empowering the Next Generation: An Interview with Leslie Banks and Valerie Andrus of Serve the Future

Introduction: In this insightful interview, Leslie Banks, founder and executive director of Serve the Future and Valerie Andrus, board member, Serve the Future discuss the transformative mission of the foundation and its impact on the local Phoenix community.

Interview Transcript:

Leslie Banks: Hi Valerie, how are you?

Valerie Andrus: Hi Leslie, I am doing so well. Thanks for having me. I'm grateful to be here today.

Leslie Banks: We know you are a strong supporter of Serve the Future. Can you tell us how you found the organization and what drew you to its mission?

Valerie Andrus: Yes, definitely. I found it through tennis. I've been playing competitive tennis here in the Valley for a long time, and that's how we met. I heard about the nonprofit through an interview you had done. Your story was compelling, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

Leslie Banks: What was it about Serve the Future that resonated with you personally?

Valerie Andrus: I connected closely with the kids because their upbringing is similar to mine. My grandparents were Mexican immigrants, and I grew up in Laveen, where many of our students are from. I want them to know that anything is possible, regardless of where they come from.

Leslie Banks: You've been involved in various activities with the kids, like taking them to the Phoenix Art Museum. Can you share more about that experience?

Valerie Andrus: I wanted to expose them to art and culture, to make them comfortable in spaces they might not feel are for them. It was great to see them enjoy the museum and consider careers in art.

Leslie Banks: What message would you give to potential sponsors who are on the fence about supporting Serve the Future?

Valerie Andrus: There are many ways to spend your money, but giving time and support to help these kids grow is invaluable. Serve the Future isn't just about tennis; it's about building confidence and realizing their value.

Conclusion: Serve the Future is more than a nonprofit; it's a movement empowering youth and building community. Join us in this mission and be part of something truly transformative.
